Oldenburg and Kale

What has the city of Oldenburg to do with Kale? Everything!

The charming city of Oldenburg with its University located in Northwest Germany close to the Hanseatic City of Bremen and the Netherlands is the (secret) capital of the fine vegetable and bearing the name „Kohltourhauptstadt“.

During wintertime of each year groups of people hike through the winterly landscape with handcarts, sporty zeal, traditional games and alcoholic beverages towards their favourite Kale-restaurant where a marvellous Kale-dinner is waiting for them.

There is also a Kale Academy in the city where interested and gifted kale guests may acquire a Kale-Ceritficate.

The traditional Kale-dish is also well known in Berlin. For more than 5 decades politicians and business people have been coming together every year to celebrate the „Defftig Ollnborger Gröönkohl Äten“A Jury votes a prominent and important personality from politics to be Kale-King or Kale-Queen for one year. This years Queen is Prof. Dr. Johanna Wanka, Federal Minister of Education and Research. She has kindly accepted the patronage of the World Championship of Kale Cooking 2017.

Oldenburg is waiting for you and we are looking forward to your participation in this unique event.
